Family, friends, patients, and the Pontotoc and Oxford, Mississippi, communities are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Dr. John Alex Collier, beloved dentist, devoted husband, father, and man of unwavering faith, who passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, at the age of 55 after a courageous battle with a rare and aggressive form of metastatic cancer.
Surrounded by the love of his family, Dr. Collier entered eternal rest after facing his illness with remarkable courage, grace, and steadfast trust in God. His passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who knew him, yet his legacy of compassion, service, and faith will continue to inspire generations.
Born on February 18, 1971, Dr. Collier built his life around the values he cherished most—faith, family, kindness, and service to others. For nearly three decades, he faithfully cared for patients through Collier Dental, serving the Oxford-Lafayette community for 29 years and the Pontotoc community for 14 years. Alongside his wife and professional partner, Dr. Larissa Hammer Collier, he created more than a dental practice; they built a place where every patient felt welcomed, respected, and genuinely cared for.
Patients remember Dr. Collier not only for his clinical excellence but for his warm personality, quick wit, and ability to put even the most anxious visitor at ease. He celebrated life’s milestones with his patients, offered encouragement during difficult times, and formed friendships that extended far beyond the dental chair.
Above all else, John treasured his role as a husband and father. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dr. Larissa Hammer Collier, and his beloved children: Alexandra “Ally” Collier, John Trenton “Trent” Collier, Luke Alexander Hammer, Jude Wayne Hammer, Lexi Jo Hammer, JannaMae Eve Collier, and Jeb Lincoln Collier. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Douglas Collier Jr. and Mae Lois Collier, as well as his grandmother, Mildred Evelyn Collier.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at West Heights Baptist Church in Pontotoc, Mississippi, with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place afterward in the church cemetery.
